Our Story

"The most meaningful moments always happened in the kitchen. Whether it was prepping for Shabbat dinner or cooking for a holiday gathering, people opened up when they were chopping vegetables or stirring pots together."
It started with a late-night kitchen conversation. Another incredible event in San Antonio had just wrapped. The energy was high, the connections were real, and yet we kept hearing the same thing: “My life is great, but something is missing. I want to give back. I want to make a difference.”
As leaders in San Antonio’s community, we (Levi & Rochel) have spent years curating spaces for people to connect. And time and again we noticed something powerful: the deepest, most authentic moments always happened in the kitchen, while prepping meals, sharing recipes, laughing over chopping boards. That’s where walls came down, and purpose came alive.
That’s when the bigger picture came into focus: hunger in Bexar County is real and growing. About 14 % of residents don’t have reliable access to enough food for an active, healthy life, and about 1 in 5 children face food insecurity right here in our community. These are not distant statistics; they represent our neighbors, our children’s classmates, and individuals who simply aren’t making it.
Yet hunger often hides in plain sight. Many people work hard, but rising costs make it difficult to keep healthy meals on the table. The strain affects whole families. It touches health, drains energy, disrupts focus, and erodes peace of mind.
That is why we created Our Giving Kitchen in San Antonio. This is a volunteer kitchen and community hub where volunteers of all ages and backgrounds — with young adults as a vibrant anchor — come together to cook fresh, homemade meals, which are delivered through partnerships with local nonprofits directly to individuals and families in need. In one shared act, volunteers find purpose and neighbors find nourishment.
We serve people of all faiths and all walks of life. Because this isn't just about food. It is about connection, dignity, neighbors helping neighbors, and reminding every person that they are seen, valued, and supported.
With your partnership, we can bring Our Giving Kitchen to life and take real steps toward nourishing people, strengthening community ties, and helping every resident know they belong.
